READY FOR ADOPTION!

Billion

Animal ID: ACCT-A-208161

Breed: Terrier, Pit Bull

Sex: Male

Weight: 64 lbs

Age: 4Y/0M/3W

Location: Large Dog Kennel, A7

Billion (also responds to Bill and Billy) is an excellent dog! He is trusting, smart, goofy, happy, playful, attentive, responsive, and curious. He’s not perfect, but with time and attention and a smidge of consistent training and correction, he’s going to be great for whoever chooses him.

Bill’s been staying with me for six weeks now. Since day one, it was clear to me that his previous family must have loved him and invested time and energy into him. He was trusting of me since the moment I brought him home. He also knew a few commands and was housebroken.

Bill knows how to sit, stay, down, give eyes, shake, and boop. He is extremely treat-motivated and focused when he trains in a controlled environment. He is also good at sitting and giving eyes when on walks.

Bill is good on walks but has definite room for improvement. He pulls a bit and can become distracted, especially when he is aware of a dog nearby. We are currently working hard on the heel command and I have full confidence he will master it over time. He responds to correction very well and does not become discouraged or impatient. Decreasing his fixation on other dogs, keeping him focused, and getting him to walk at heel without pulling is our main training focus at the moment.

Spike

Animal ID: ACCT-A-238623

Breed: Mixed Breed (Medium)

Sex: Male

Weight: 50.1 lbs

Age: 1Y/9M/0W

Location: Dog Iso 1

Meet Spike (ACCT-A-238623)! This handsome spotted boy is ready to find his forever home.

Spike is a sociable and playful boy who was found roaming and brought to us for safety. He loves to give kisses and enjoys playing with toys, especially when he gets to chase them! He's also a fan of enrichment activities like shredding tubes and chewing on dental sticks to help him get some mental stimulation.

He can be a little jumpy and mouthy when he wants attention, so he will need a family who is willing to work with him on his manners and help him channel his energy in positive ways. He gets excited when he sees other dogs, sometimes barking and pulling.

We've been working with Spike here at the shelter to help him feel more comfortable and relaxed. He can get stressed in his kennel, so we try to keep him busy with fun activities, which helps him destress.

Spike is looking for a patient, experienced home to give him lots of love and an outlet for his energy. He'll repay you in lots of playing, kisses, and snuggles!

Meet Starr Shine ACCT-A-238896! This beautiful ten-year-old girl hasn't had the easiest life, but she's hoping there's a special person out there to give her a chance at happiness.

Starr Shine was surrendered to ACCT Philly on December 8th from an unstable living situation. Not much is known about her past, but it appears that life has not always been kind to Starr Shine. Here in the shelter, Starr has been quite shy and fearful, but has done exceedingly well during her veterinary exams and vaccinations! Starr has a bit of dental tartar and arrived at the shelter with live fleas and waxy ears, but otherwise appears to be in good health for a pup her age.

Princess

Animal ID: ACCT-A-137906

Breed: Terrier, Pit Bull

Sex: Female

Weight: 37.5 lbs

Age: 7Y/7M/2W

Location: Large Dog Kennel, A9

Princess Peach was surrendered to the shelter after spending four years with her family, who described her as a sweet, high-energy girl who adored walks, back rubs, playtime, and being the center of attention. Sadly, her owner was moving somewhere that didn’t allow pets and was heartbroken to say goodbye. Princess lived indoors, was crate trained, mostly housebroken, and knew several commands including “sit,” “relax,” “bed time,” and “no snatch.” While she could be territorial with her food and nervous around unfamiliar people, she formed strong bonds with those she trusted.

This is her second time at the shelter, several years ago she was surrendered but the owner was able to reclaim her. Since arriving at the shelter, Princess Peach has been understandably scared and cautious. During her intake and early handling, she flinched at sudden movements and showed stress during restraint, but never directed aggression toward handlers—only at the tools being used, such as muzzles. Staff quickly learned that food is a great way to her heart; she’s gentle when taking treats and begins to relax when given time and space to decompress. In fact, during one medical exam, she melted into the lap of a technician and happily stayed there for the entire session.
Princess Peach’s behavior continued to improve with each interaction. She now seeks out affection, engages in gentle play, and even initiates contact once she feels secure. She enjoys leaning in for booty scratches, softly wagging her tail, and giving hopeful little nudges for more pets. Her progress shows just how much love she has to give once her walls come down.

Jojo

Animal ID: ACCT-A-239751

Breed: Terrier, Pit Bull

Sex: Male

Weight: 51.4 lbs

Age: 11Y/5M/1W

Location: Large Dog Kennel, D8

Meet Jojo! This adorable spotty boy is 11 years old and his hoping to find a loving home for the holidays. Jojo arrived at the shelter as a stray, after the police picked him up running loose in West Philly. While Jojo had a microchip, unfortunately it had not been updated in many years so his owner was able to be contacted. Jojo is hopeful that there's someone out there looking for a loving senior doggo to complete their family!

On 12/21, staff noted: "Sweet even-tempered boy. Approached me with some low tail wags. Was pretty gentle on leash. When ACA came and sat down in a chair near Jojo, Jojo immediately came over to him and gently put his paws up on Josh, allowing pets and cuddles."

During his 12/21 intake exam, staff noted that Jojo is an intact male whose ears were "red, warm to touch, otherwise clean," and he had "flaky, dry skin" and stained teeth. He was noted to be "QAR, friendly" during his intake exam.

Sex: Female

Weight: 42.6 lbs

Age: 4Y/0M/1W

Location: Large Dog Kennel, D1

Meet Baby Mochas (ACCT-A-239395), a sweet and petite brown lady looking for her forever home! This girl is full of wiggles and has a tail that just won't quit wagging! She's a friendly pup who greets new people with enthusiasm and seems to be very comfortable meeting new friends.

Baby Mochas is an energetic girl who enjoys a good zoomie session in the play yard! She can get a little excited and might jump up to say hello, but she's a gentle soul. She already knows "sit" and is very treat motivated, which will make training a breeze. She takes treats gently from your hand and loves to sniff around before finding them.

She enjoys being pet and doesn't seem to mind being handled all over, but sometimes gets a little jumpy. She also showed interest in toys and didn’t seem to guard them. If you're looking for a loving, playful companion, meet Baby Mochas at ACCT Philly any day from 10am-6pm!

Sex: Male

Weight: 55.5 lbs

Age: 2Y/0M/1W

Location: Large Dog Kennel, E8

Meet Challah (ACCT-A-239604), a handsome, playful young guy! Challah came to us as a stray with a buddy, Latke, and now he's ready to find his forever home.

This bouncy boy is full of energy and affection. He's a total sweetheart who loves to give kisses and will happily jump up to shower you with affection. He is treat-motivated and knows "sit," which he's happy to show off for a tasty reward! He loves to play and enjoys exploring with a snuffle mat and other enrichment.

Challah can get a little excited and jumpy, so he'd benefit from a family who can help him learn some manners and channel his energy in positive ways. He could use some help learning how to show affection appropriately, since his kisses can turn into love nibbles when he gets excited.

If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who will keep you entertained and active, Challah could be your perfect match!

Swaggy Joe

Animal ID: ACCT-A-239122

Breed: Mixed Breed (Medium)

Sex: Male

Weight: 60 lbs

Age: 4Y/0M/2W

Location: Dog Iso 1

Meet Swaggy Joe ACCT-A-239122! Swaggy Joe is a 4-year-old male who was brought in by animal protection officers as a stray on 12/11.

Per volunteer 12/22: I had Swaggy Joe out again tonight. He is such a sweet boy and has been so much more comfortable with me and solicits pets and snuggles! He is very easy to leash and walk and is a such a fun easy going boy

Per staff: Yesterday 12/18 the doctor needed to do a vet exam on Swaggy Joe. When going to leash him up he was still avoidant of the leash, however once the leash was on he came right out of the kennel. Another staff member was already in the eval room when we entered and he did low grumble at her at a distance. He leaned into pets for me and gave low tail wags. The other staff member went to go grab some treat he went over to her sniffed, booped the back of her legs and then retreated back over to me sitting on my lap. When the doctor entered the room he stayed close to me and then went up to take treats from her. We were able to walk him to the scale by the back office and then go into the exam room. He leaned his entire body into mine while I held him for the cytopoint injection. He gave low grumbles when a male staff member came over to give the injections. On the way back to the kennel he did pull pretty hard with ears back.
